Interviewing Tips

These tips apply whether you are interviewing for an internship or a full time permanent position.

  • Prepare for the interview by trying to get some information about the company (check out their web site if available). The University Career Center or the CMPS Career Services office may have some information.

  • Research 2-3 questions to ask

  • Dress professionally

  • Be on time - come 10-15 minutes early

  • Bring a good quality copy of your resume with you: the interviewer may have one that has been faxed and copied many times

  • Bring copies of any letters of recommendation and a list of references with names and phone numbers

  • Technical skills notwithstanding, all employers like to see confidence, friendliness and enthusiasm, especially when considering people for internships or entry level positions

  • Relax and enjoy the conversation with your potential employer
