College Preparation Workshop Series
August 4–8, 2008
APPLICATION DEADLINE: July 21, 2008
The College Preparation Workshop Series offers students from local high schools an opportunity to gain important information on applying to and planning for college, as well as explore research and careers in science and technology. Participants will take part in workshops, laboratory tours, and team-based projects. The program takes place from 8:30am – 4:00pm each day, and lunch is provided. The program is limited to 30 participants.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
Students participate in a variety of workshops covering the following topics:
- Welcome To “Terp Country”. Students will explore the University of Maryland campus and all of its many resources.
- Applying to College. College admissions counselors will provide students with useful tips and sound strategies for creating a strong college admissions application.
- SAT Preparation. Students will get tips from test preparation experts on how to prepare for the SAT and attain a competitive score.
- Financing Your College Education. Financial aid professionals will advise students on how to pay for college. Students will learn about scholarships, student loans, grants, work study, and more.
- Careers in Mathematics and Science. Students will be introduced to college majors in math and science and professional careers in corporations, research, and industry.
- Team-Based Projects. Students will work on two fun and challenging team projects covering mathematical games and physics and engineering concepts. Prizes are awarded to the top projects.
ELIGIBILITY
To be considered for the College Preparation Workshop Series, students must complete the online application and meet the following eligibility requirements.
- Demonstrate interest in and aptitude for majors/careers in science, technology, engineering or mathematics.
- Solid academic performance in college preparatory mathematics and science courses
- Provide your own transportation to and from campus for the duration of the program.
COSTS
There is no fee for participating in College Preparation Workshop Series. Students may incur some expenses related to transportation.

Please print out, complete and mail the attached consent form to the College. Students who apply will be unable to participate without a signed consent form. Please use the following address when mailing in your consent form.

APPLICATION PROCESS
All students who submit a completed application by the July 21, 2008 deadline and meet the eligibility requirements will be considered. Selected students will be notified by email and/or mail no later than July 28, 2008 and will be asked to confirm their attendance. Participation is on a first come, first serve basis.
