Student Community for Outreach, Retention and Excellence
S.C.O.R.E. is a student community committed to the recruitment,
retention, and graduation of Black, Latino/a, and Native American
students in the College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical
Sciences. The members of this organization are from diverse
backgrounds and share a commitment to creating a supportive
community where students are able to network with other CMPS
students, engage in internship and mentoring opportunities,
participate in academic support programs and embrace the surrounding
campus and local community through outreach activities.
Association
of Women in Computing (AWC)
The AWC is a group of women in the Computer Science department
who are interested in encouraging women to enter this area
of study and to join the ranks of women in the field. In present
years the number of women in the field has been declining.
It is our purpose, through the establishment of a support
system including mentoring, group tutoring, and study group
formation, to end this decline. AWC's activities include social
events, company speakers and seminars. More information can
be obtained by emailing a representative at awc@cs.umd.edu.
Women in
Math (WIM)
Women in Math (WIM) is the student chapter of the Association for Women in Mathematics at the University of Maryland. WIM is an organization dedicated to serving the needs of female mathematicians at UMCP and in the surrounding community. Membership is open to undergraduates, grad students, post docs, lecturers, faculty and staff who are interested in advancing the interests of women in mathematics, applied mathematics, statistics and math education. WIM hosts a pizza lunch with a featured speaker the 4th Tuesday of every month in MTH 3201. We also organize mentor groups, study groups, a knitting circle and volunteer opportunities. For more information, visit our website and Google Calendar, log onto our Facebook Group, or subscribe to our email list by sending an email to majordomo@math.umd.edu with an empty subject line and the subscribe wim in the body of the message.
