Meet the Staff

Alice Bishop, Program Management Specialist (ambishop@umd.edu)
As the Program Management Specialist, Alice Bishop provides
executive administrative support for the Diversity office. In
her position, she has the lead responsibility for coordinating
the annual Celebrating Excellence program. She also produces
the weekly Career Services eNewsletter for undergraduate
students, serves as the primary liaison for MentorNet and
provides administrative support for various search committees.
In her free time, Alice serves as a community advocate
to develop partnerships with neighborhood schools, churches
and businesses to improve the quality of life for all individuals. Her
advice to students is “Don’t Give Up and Each
One, Help One”. This belief is a result of
her being reared at an early age by an entire “community” and
learning the importance of education and giving back. Prior
to joining the College of Computer, Mathematical and Physical
Sciences, Alice worked in the university’s Philip
Merrill College of Journalism where she coordinated the
efforts of journalists to provide quality stories of children
and families.

Tamara Singleton (tsinglet@umd.edu)
Tamara Singleton is currently a graduate student in the University of Maryland,
College Park Applied Mathematics and Scientific Computing (AMSC) program.
She currently works for the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation
Program (LSAMP) as an undergraduate research coordinator. In her position
she coordinates the undergraduate research program of LSAMP which encourages
students to participate in undergraduate research opportunities and purse
advance degrees in the STEM fields. She also provides support for other programs
offered through STAND and the Bridge Program for Scientist and Engineers.
Tamara originates from New Orleans, LA where she received her bachelor’s
degree in Mathematics from Dillard University and her Master’s degree
in Mathematics from Tulane University. She encourages students to fully participate
in opportunities within their area of study to develop themselves as students
and contribute to their communities.
