College
Preparation Workshop Series
The College Preparation Workshop Series is a week-long program
held in August to introduce high school students to research
and careers in science and mathematics and provide valuable
information to assist them with planning for college. Participants
attend workshops on the college application process, writing
application essays, financial aid and SAT test preparation,
as well as take part in science and math team-based projects,
laboratory tours and field trips to local corporations or

Passport
The Java Passport Program is a program for high school students
interested in computer programming. The program includes
an emphasis on encouraging high school girls' interest in
Math and Computer Science, but is open to both male and
female participants. The program has a Summer, Fall and

Girls Physics
The Physics Department in collaboration with the Materials
Research Science Engineering Center (MRSEC) annually offer
the Summer Girls Physics program which is designed to encourage
middle-school girls to consider careers in science, especially
Physics. Each year, 8th grade girls from Maryland, Washington,
D.C. and Northern Virginia spend two weeks at the University
